Ascalon 15k boots should work exactly like the knights boots.

This is awesome! Just wear the boots and get Platemail every where else. You'll have -2 reduction plus the +armor given by platemail.

It makes Knights armor and Ascalon armor pretty much useless, because you only need one piece! The only reason you use them is you like the look of it!
Found that here:
http://www.guildwars.com/manual/comb...armor-faq.html
"Does armor stack?
Not in the strictest sense of the word. Each piece of armor protects a specific area of the body, so a full set of armor works together to protect your character. The benefit of any footwear only applies to the feet, and that of any chest piece only to the chest area. Armor with extra damage-absorption will absorb damage from attacks to a specific area of the body, so in that sense, it doesn't stack. Armor with a plus to Energy, on the other hand, will increase your Energy by the stated amount for each piece of armor, e.g., if your helm, boots, and pauldron all give +5 Energy, your total benefit is +15 Energy."
But that is completly wrong! The bold is how it should work in my opinion!

For the intent of clarifying this even more, Armor is not a Piece-to-Location system. What a P-t-L system means is that getting hit on the arm counts as an arm hit. This is completely wrong.
Armor is a global property, if ur not wearing gaunts, the enemy doesnt do MORE damage to your hands. This has been tested many times and in many forums has been talked about.

as stated in the manual. Each piece protects a part of the body.
You do not get global absorption for one piece of knights armor. You get the absorption only on the area you are wearing it. Look at it like padding within the piece. You have a solid hunk of steel on your chest(platemail) and a pair of steel boots with space and padding(knights). If you get hit on your chest you have a hard place for it to hit, thus taking less damage than normal, but no absorption of force. If you get in your feet, you take a little less due to padding as well as it absorbs a little. Each piece must be worn to get armor absorption on your entire body.
It makes sense that it works this way and not globally.
As for the getting hit in your hands does more damage if you are not wearing guantlets. This is true and not true. You get in your hands while not wearing guantlets and you take more damage than you normally would if you were wearing guantlets. The difference is that you take less damage in total because a hit to the hand doesn't hurt you like a hit in the chest or head does.
